Darker, bolder, better – Francis International Airport come of age with Cache
The 3rd album “Cache” from the Austrian five-piece sees the band go on a darker, more emotional journey as they delve into the depths of their own psyche. What comes out is a chillingly poignant album which is a tender as it is tenacious.
Experimental is perhaps a word which best sums up this album as the band have taken the chance to express their musical influences, and their creativity and variety is a breath of fresh air. The opener “Berenice” sets the tone perfectly with its captivating drum rhythms and synth elements which would be at home on some of the best 80’s synth-pop records. The epic “March” is a song which simply gets better after every listen.
FIA haven’t forgotten how to make a catchy pop song either however, and this album is replete with songs which will be filling radio space across Europe in the next few months. “Great Deeds” and their infectiously addictive new single “The Right Ones” tick all of the right boxes in this category.
This may well be the album which finally sees FIA hit the big time.
Experimentally progressive pop perfection. 8/10
