Austria is the focus country for the Eurosonic festival this week which kicks off on Wednesday, which is truly a wonderful thing. I am not an Austrian, but I live in Vienna and there really is some great music coming out of the country which is often taken for granted or not appreciated as much as international acts are. There are plenty of bands playing there this week that we have featured, mentioned and loved on SIM over the last few months, so lets hope the Netherlands digs the likes of Sex Jams, Sweet Sweet Moon, Ghost Capsules, Cid Rim, Tirana, Attwenger and the rest as much as we do.
Despite this there is still plenty happening in the capital. Here are our recommendations for the week.
If you are in the mood for a comfortable evening of freaking out then head down to Rhiz where Silvius Sonvilla will be playing alongside The Midnights. We featured a Silvius Sonvilla remix earlier on today, check out another one hot off the mixing tables below
Pop more your thing? B72 + Elliphant are the words you need to hear then.
JAMES CHOICE & THE BAD DECISIONS 7″ RELEASE SHOW@ B72 – 15.01
JAMES CHOICE & The Bad Decision’s lovely little single “Kathleen” comes out on Wednesday on Schall & Rauch Platten, and what would a release be without a release party? The Salzburg-born musician has been cutting his teeth in the business in London over the last few years and will be bringing his sound back to the land of Knödel and Ottakringer by embarking on a tour of Austria over the next few months.
THE SADO MASO GUITAR CLUB@ Chelsea – 16.01
Their name sounds like the title of one of those low budget slasher films that Renée Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey would be proud of, and we like it. After supporting Babyshambles in Gasometer at the end of last year SMGC will be rocking it out in Chelsea on Thursday night if you want to get a healthy dose of guitar.
HIDDEN BY THE GRAPES + JUST FRIENDS AND LOVERS + GOLDSOUNDZ @ Fluc – 18.01
This one is a showcase of Austrian “underground” music and a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
