There is not going to be a detailed “things to see and do” this week. The festival season is in full force and the gigs in the Viennese capital are thin on the surface. As a result we have turned our eye to upper Austria, where the 10th!!! Rock im Dorf festival will take place this weekend with an impressive line-up of bands from The Beth Edges to OK Kid and Steaming Satellites.
If there is one thing that SiM likes, it is small, personal festivals where you know that the organizers are doing it for the love of the music. Rock im Dorf is one of those. The festival, which is held in Inzersdorf/Schlierbach, prides itself on its relaxed, personal atmosphere which couldn’t be any further from the chaos and mass marketing machines of the bigger festivals which often leave a sour, commercial taste in the mouth.
After the sold-out success of 2013 the festival has finally been able to finance a two-day spectacular. The line-up is another example of the blossoming local music scene with festival organizer Valentin Geiseder deliberately focussing on local talent to celebrate the anniversary. 11 of the 12 artists playing are from Austria.

OK KID will be headlining on Friday night and are a definite must-see. The Germans are a great live band who are guaranteed to get the masses moving with their elecro indie hip hop.
The Beth Edges released their impressive third album earlier this year and will be taking to the stage before OK KID. The local lads will no doubt have no problem getting a fair few “Tanzbeine” going.
Saturday is packed full of good music, we’re not going to give any recommendations, because they should all be seen.
