New York dream pop, shoe gazers give Vienna their version of the truth at Chelsea
Saturday night, Gürtel, Chelsea. A combination of words which will make many a music fan and anyone who has been to visit Vienna get all misty eyed. It is one of the cult venues in the city Midge Ure’s Ultravox devoted a song to. It welcomed New York dream indie aficionados Beach Fossils this time as Teenbeat Club Concerts continue to be consistent providers of top quality international indie acts in the capital. Getting Beach Fossils was just another feather in their very feathery cap.
As is the norm for bands of the size of Beach Fossils they took their time to make their way to the venue, opting to go for some pre-gig energy tanking eating and drinking just before they were due on stage. The half hour wait allowed some of the more undecided bystanders and drinkers to make the decision to squeeze into the cozily full back room, and they were not to be disappointed.
Looking like the “bad kids” from a dodgy 90s teenager film, Beach Fossils wasted no time in getting down to business as they welcomed the crowd long enough to tell them how hungover they were, and that it was guitarist Tommy Davidson’s birthday. With the courtesies over Beach Fossils stormed into their set of bubbling bass lines and catchy indie riffs. Lead singer Dustin Payseur’s wispy voice and dreamy lyrics caught the feeling of the early autumn evening as they started with ‘Birthday”, but the largest applause were reserved for the flagship hits on their new album Clash the Truth, “Generational Synthetic” and “Careless”.
The summer is pretty much over, the festival season is more or less behind us, and that means more gigs and bands and club nights again! Here is what you should be spending your time […]
